The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man whose body was recovered from Wood Lake near Kelowna on June 29, 2013.
He is George Matthew Klein, aged 42, from Whitehorse, Yukon.
Mr. Klein was with a large party of extended family members on the beach at Wood Lake near the Kokanee Beach Resort on the afternoon of June 29. Some of the youngsters with the group, including two of Mr. Klein's sons, were swimming and playing in the water when they were caught up in an undertow where Vernon Creek empties into Wood Lake.
A number of adults in the party entered the water to help the boys, including Mr. Klein who dove in from a dock. The boys were all safely rescued, but Mr. Klein did not re-surface. Emergency services were immediately called, and a search was begun. Mr. Klein was recovered later in the afternoon from water about five metres deep about 20 metres from shore.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
