The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of four persons who died following a mid-air collision between a glider and a small airplane on June 29, 2013.
Killed in the crash were:
- Rudy Lee Rozsypalek, aged 50, from Pemberton, pilot of the glider.
- Mohnish Paul, aged 21, from Byrsanjitown, Nappur, India, the passenger in the glider.
- Terence Edward Gale, aged 42, from 100 Mile House, the pilot of the Cessna airplane.
- Rita Turnbull, aged 51, spouse of Mr. Gale and passenger in the Cessna.
The Cessna was en route from 100 Mile House to Vancouver Island. The glider was on a sightseeing flight from its base in Pemberton.
The glider and the Cessna collided in mid-air over the campground in Nairn Falls Provincial Park at about 12:15 p.m. on June 29. Both immediately fell to earth. All four persons were deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service and Transportation Safety Board continue to investigate these deaths.
The families of all four persons have been notified of their deaths. On behalf of the families, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
