The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died after falling at the Stawamus Chief Park in Squamish on Aug. 4, 2013.
The woman was Gabriole VanKeith, aged 57, from Vancouver.
Hikers at the park observed Ms. VanKeith fall from a height and alerted emergency personnel. Search and Rescue workers located Ms. VanKeith within 30 minutes, and she was confirmed deceased at the scene. Ms. VanKeith was hiking alone on the Black Dyke trail at the time of her fall. Though she did not have identification on her person, eventually she was identified through information gathered after her vehicle was located nearby.
The BC Coroners Service continues to investigate this death.
The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to Ms. VanKeith's family and friends. On behalf of family members, it is requested that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
