The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male student pilot who died as the result of an aircraft incident which occurred near Cache Creek on Aug. 6, 2013.
The pilot was Lorne Mark Perreault, aged 16, from Kamloops.
Mr. Perreault was the sole pilot of a rented Cessna 172 aircraft which was reported missing after failing to return to Kamloops Airport on Aug. 6, 2013.
The aircraft was located, damaged on a rugged hillside approximately ten miles north east of Cache Creek on Aug. 7, 2013.
Search and Rescue workers were able to gain access to the scene where they confirmed Mr. Perreault deceased and extracted him by helicopter.
The BC Coroners Service and Transport Canada continue to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Perreault has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
The BC Coroners Service expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Perreault.
The Coroners Service would also like to express sincere appreciation to Kamloops Search and Rescue who provided significant assistance in locating and extracting Mr. Perreault.
