The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died in a camping incident at Murtle Lake near Clearwater on Aug. 16, 2013.
She is Alice Bernice Gilbert, aged 66, of Kaslo.
Ms. Gilbert was camping with family and friends at a campsite on Murtle Lake, a marine campsite that is part of Wells Gray Provincial Park. At about 5 a.m., a 38-metre-tall tree spontaneously fell, landing on the tent in which Ms. Gilbert was staying. Others at the campsite summoned aid as quickly as possible, but Ms. Gilbert could not be resuscitated.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Ms. Gilbert has been notified of her death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
