The BC Coroners Service has announced an inquest into the death of Kyle Martin Vandenberg.
Mr. Vandenberg, aged 28, of Vancouver, died of an apparently self-inflicted knife wound after an interaction with Vancouver Police officers on July 16, 2011, at his home. He was taken by ambulance to Vancouver General Hospital, but died shortly after arrival there.
The inquest will take place the week beginning March 31, 2014, at the Coroners Court in Burnaby.
Presiding coroner Liana Wright and a jury will hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses to determine the facts surrounding this death. While the jury may not, by law, make any findings of legal responsibility, it will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.
An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
