The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male who died after a motor vehicle incident in Winlaw, B.C. on Dec. 4, 2013.

He was William Matthew Lekopoy, aged 22, of Appledale, B.C.

On Dec. 4, 2013, Mr. Lekopoy was walking along Highway 6 north of Winlaw, B.C. when he was struck by a 1998 Jeep Cherokee travelling southbound. The Jeep driver attempted to avoid a collision but struck Mr. Lekopoy and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The BC Coroners Service, RCMP Slocan Detachment and West Kootenay Traffic Services continue to investigate this death.

The family of William has been notified of the death. On behalf of family members, the Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
