Minister of State for Small Business Naomi Yamamoto is presenting Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medals to Dee Dhaliwal and Douglas Smith.

The presentations will take place at the Gordon Smith Gallery of Canadian Art in North Vancouver on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, in recognition of their significant achievements and distinguished service to their fellow citizens.

Dhaliwal is being acknowledged for her tireless community involvement and public service. From her work on various community and professional boards, committees and foundations, she has given generously of her time for the betterment of local citizens. She is a learner, painter, mother, publisher, volunteer and sommelier.

Smith is being acknowledged for his belief that it is a fundamental responsibility to give back to the community in which one lives, works and plays. Smith consistently gives his time, energy and talent to many and various organizations to ensure the North Shore remains a dynamic and liveable community. Additionally, as vice-president of corporate affairs for North Shore Credit Union, Smith is the executive sponsor of the organization's corporate giving and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Medal recipients have made a significant contribution to a province, territory, region or community within Canada, or an achievement abroad that brings credit to Canada. Like Her Majesty, those recognized have dedicated themselves to service their fellow citizens, communities and country.

Quote:
