Multiculturalism Minister Teresa Wat issued the following statement today.
"Every year, the third week in November is proclaimed as B.C. Multiculturalism Week. It is a time when we can celebrate our multicultural heritage and ethnic diversity. It is also an opportunity for everyone to work together to create safer, more welcoming communities that support diversity and reject discrimination.
"B.C. is truly multicultural and the wide variety of cultures contribute to the economic health of the province. People from cultures and nations around the world bring their skills, talents, energy and hopes to B.C. We welcome them - because we know that their success becomes British Columbia's success.
"Our cultural diversity is one of our greatest strengths. It helps our economy grow and makes life better for B.C. families. We are constantly working to ensure our province is a safe, welcoming place to live while maintaining our multicultural advantage in a global economy.
"As Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism, I encourage everyone to join in the week's celebrations and take a minute to appreciate the many ways diversity enriches British Columbia. Let's celebrate our differences."
