Premier Christy Clark has released the following statement about UBC president and vice-chancellor Stephen Toope:

"Stephen Toope has been a great leader for the University of British Columbia. He took an already great institution to new heights, including an expansion into the Okanagan. UBC is rightly seen as one of Canada's premier universities, thanks in part to Stephen's efforts.

"A scholar who has earned an international reputation, Stephen has worked for the United Nations, the Supreme Court of Canada, as dean of McGill University's faculty of law, and was president of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation.

"On behalf of all British Columbians, I want to thank Stephen for the excellent work he did at UBC, and I wish both him and his family the very best in whatever they choose to do next."
