Premier Christy Clark issued the following statement on the birth of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji:

"Greetings and best wishes to everyone celebrating the birth of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of the Sikh religion and an ambassador of peace and unity for people around the world.

"British Columbia is home to a large and dynamic Sikh community, which for over 100 years has made great contributions to our province. As we commemorate the birth of Guru Nanak, we also celebrate our province's rich cultural diversity, that welcomes new ideas and cherishes old traditions.

"Guru Nanak's legacy has changed the world we live in. He believed in equality, honesty, and serving one's community - values that underpin the cultural fabric of British Columbia today.

"On behalf of all British Columbians, I congratulate all those celebrating the birth of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji."
