Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement on the situation in Ukraine:

"Along with British Columbia's Ukrainian community and the rest of the world, I have been watching events in the Ukraine. The right to peaceful demonstrations is a basic democratic principle - there is never a reason to resort to violence.

"Canada has joined with the international community in calling on the Ukrainian government to respect and protect the rights of its citizens. Along with the Prime Minister and my fellow premiers, I remain hopeful the government and people of Ukraine can find a peaceful resolution."
