CMS Focus Management Services Ltd. of Victoria took the top award for Excellence in Construction Management and Supervision, at the 9th annual Deputy Minister's Consulting Engineers Awards, for its exceptional work on the 202nd Street Rapid Transit Project in Langley.
CMS Focus Management Services Ltd. was awarded a $4.7-million contract to manage and provide supervision services for the construction of two new structures on Highway 1 eastbound and westbound lanes, a roundabout to allow express bus underpass access on and off of Highway 1, and a new Park and Ride facility in Langley accommodating 669 vehicles.
Even through very challenging geotechnical conditions, CMS Focus managed the soft soil challenge effectively, ensuring that all environmental requirements were met. Aware of the time sensitivity, the company accommodated different procurement strategies to effectively meet schedule requirements, maintaining open communication throughout the project.
The new 202nd Street Park and Ride was built on time, on budget. It is the eastern transit hub for the new Highway 1 express bus service, connecting people to the Lougheed SkyTrain Station in less than 25 minutes.
More than $70 million was invested in this transit improvement project through a partnership between the B.C. government, the Government of Canada and TransLink, providing the infrastructure for transit service over the Port Mann Bridge for the first time in more than 25 years.
For Excellence in Construction Management and Supervision, the finalists were Glacier Saanburn of Cranbrook for the Donald Bridge replacement project and Saanburn Technical Services Ltd. of Kamloops for the Hagwilget Suspension Bridge rehabilitation project.
