The Evergreen Line team is selling firewood and donating the money raised to SHARE Family & Community Services, a local non-profit organization that supports people and families.
The public are invited to buy the firewood at the Coquitlam Centre parking lot (near Northern Ave. and Pinetree Way) on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The firewood comes from a portion of the trees removed for the Evergreen Line in Coquitlam. The trees are being removed from the west side of Pinetree Way, between Northern Avenue and Barnet Highway. Tree removal will make room for the Evergreen Line guideway and Lincoln Station in Coquitlam.
Tree removal and replacement are part of the project's Environmental Assessment certificate. The Evergreen Line team is working closely with municipalities on tree replacement and site enhancement.
SHARE is a non-profit, independent, community-based organization, which provides leadership and programs in response to the social needs of the residents of the Tri-Cities and nearby communities.
The Evergreen Line will open in summer 2016, linking Burnaby, Port Moody and Coquitlam with the existing rapid transit system. Passengers will be able to connect directly onto the Millennium Line at Lougheed Town Centre Station. Construction is underway now. Building the Evergreen Line will create 8,000 jobs.
