Patricia Morgan and Tom Kadla were awarded provincial Board of Examiners certificates in December, making them two of 16 local government employees to be recognized in 2013 for their achievement in academic training and work experience in their local government field.
Patricia Morgan, manager of Community Services for Peace River Regional District, earned her certificate in local government service delivery. Tom Kadla, chief administrative officer for Village of Lumby received his certificate in local government executive management. Out of the 16 provincial Board of Examiners certificates awarded in 2013, these included: nine for service delivery; one for administration; three for statutory administration; and three for executive management.
Certificates awarded by the provincial Board of Examiners recognize academic training and work experience in local government. Candidates qualify based on their experience and mandatory education criteria determined by the provincial Board of Examiners. On average, 25 certificates are awarded annually to employees of local governments throughout the province.
Originally established under the Municipal Act in 1944, and now operating under the Local Government Act, the provincial Board of Examiners helps improve professional skills of local government employees throughout British Columbia. The three-member board represents the Local Government Management Association of B.C., the Union of British Columbia Municipalities and the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.
