Community, Sport and Cultural Development Minister Coralee Oakes issued the following statement today in recognition of the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games from March 7-16, 2014.

"I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all Canadian athletes attending the Games, in particular those who live or train right here in British Columbia.

"Paralympians are a true inspiration to all British Columbians. Their determination and passion exemplify the "We Can" spirit of the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"I am proud that British Columbia is a place where people of all abilities have the opportunity to participate in sport and achieve their dreams. Our government is proud to support inclusive sport programs that promote sport participation and active living for people of all abilities.

"We are committed to sport and active, healthy lifestyles for all British Columbians. Since 2001, we have invested more than $1 billion in sport and are providing more than $50 million this year alone.

"Our athletes are the pride of B.C. and on behalf of our government, I wish each and every athlete a successful Paralympic Games."
