The transfer of 6.82 hectares of Crown land to the District of Logan Lake will support the development and expansion of essential community services for residents, announced Fraser-Nicola MLA Jackie Tegart on behalf of Coralee Oakes, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

The Crown land transfer, sponsored by a $351,000 grant through the B.C. government's Sponsored Crown Grant and Nominal Rent Tenure program, will provide a location for some of the district's major infrastructure projects, including a new fire hall and training facility, a community park and a sani-dump station. As well, the land transfer will allow for the expansion of an existing cemetery.

The Crown land is situated on Meadow Creek Road (Highway 97D) across the street from the Public Works yard at the southern entrance to Logan Lake. Acquiring this land also provides for road access to this area of new development.

The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development's Sponsored Crown Grant and Nominal Rent Tenure program provides sponsorship for tenure or title to Crown lands for local governments and community groups to support facilities such as water and sewage treatment plants, offices, community halls, fire stations, recreational facilities, parks or airports.

Quote:

Jackie Tegart, MLA for Fraser-Nicola -

"This Crown Land transfer means the District of Logan Lake can move forward with infrastructure projects that are integral to the continual growth and prosperity of this region. We are grateful to the B.C. government for the support in making this possible."

Quick Facts:

  • The Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development has yearly allocations to sponsor Crown grants or nominal rent tenures for local governments and community organizations.
  • The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations manages the land-tenuring process, once a sponsoring ministry agrees to sponsor a grant of Crown land.
