Deep Cove Elementary is ready to serve young students and families for years to come with the completion of a $1.4-million seismic upgrade.
The school is in a beautiful, semi-rural setting and last year celebrated its 100th anniversary. With a current enrolment of 330 kindergarten to Grade 5 students, the school features French Immersion and boasts an extensive recycling program.
The current facility was constructed in 1956 and has had a number of additions over the years. Work completed under the Seismic Mitigation Program included strengthening walls and replacing part of the roof.
Deep Cove Elementary has twinned with Motati Primary in Lesotho, an AIDS-ravaged country in southern Africa. Parents, teachers and students regularly hold fund-raising events and to date have raised over $33,000 to purchase shoes, blankets, garden seeds etc. for the Lesotho community.
