In response to the extreme landslide risk in the Upper Lillooet, the Province is closing public access to the Lillooet River Forest Service Road indefinitely.
The road is closed just past the nine-kilometre point, at the Hurley turnoff, cutting off access to recreation opportunities in the area.
High temperatures and dry conditions have contributed to the landslide hazard. Based on the current weather forecast, the closure will likely not be lifted by the weekend.
The area affected by this closure includes ongoing construction of the Innergex clean energy project. The company has scaled back operations to avoid high risk slide areas.
