The B.C. government is looking for proposals from agencies, societies, businesses or individuals for the future use of the historic Keremeos Grist Mill and lands that will reduce reliance on public funds.
Successful proponents will offer a strong business case for a long-term use with a focus on financial independence from government. The candidate with the strongest proposal will be invited to make a formal application for tenure.
Copies of the Request for Proposal package are available by clicking on the BC Bid webpage: http://www.bcbid.gov.bc.ca/open.dll/welcome and selecting document number “6506.” Proposals must be received before Friday, Sept. 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. (Pacific Time).
Constructed in 1877 by Barrington Price, this historic mill and store are valuable indicators of pioneer entrepreneurship in British Columbia’s Interior. In recent years, the Grist Mill has been operated as a tourism attraction. The 4.96-hectare site includes 2.02 hectares of fields and gardens, a mill, a 19th-century house and farm outbuildings, a modern visitor centre, parking, camping and tea room facilities. The property is part of the Agriculture Land Reserve and has heritage designation.
