As of noon on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014, the area with restricted access around the Mt. McAllister wildfire is being expanded to ensure the safety of the public and firefighting personnel.
The Mt. McAllister fire is now estimated to cover 25,969 hectares, but no structures or communities are threatened at this time.
This area restriction order applies within the following geographic boundaries and is outlined in black on the map available online at: http://bit.ly/1plFhQ2
- Starting at kilometre 18.5 on the Johnson Forest Service Road;
- then north to Dinosaur Lake, following the south shore of Dinosaur Lake north to Utah Road;
- then west along Utah Road, continuing west from kilometre 45.5 to kilometre 60 on the Johnson Forest Service Road (toward Carbon Lake);
- then south for 28 kilometres;
- then east for 24 kilometres;
- then north to kilometre 18.5 on the Johnson Forest Service Road.
Firefighting crews continue to make good progress on the Mt. McAllister fire and are now in the mop-up stage on most of the southern sections of the fire. Ground crews and air support continue to focus on the northeast edge of the fire. Cooler temperatures and the chance of continued precipitation will help reduce fire activity over the next few days.
