The area restriction order that has been in place around the Mount McAllister wildfire was rescinded effective at noon (PDT) on Oct. 6, 2014, due to cooler weather and a subsequent decrease in fire activity.

Despite the lifting of this area restriction, the Prince George Fire Centre reminds members of the public that the Mount McAllister fire is still active and cautions them against entering any area where wildfires are burning or have recently occurred.

These areas typically contain multiple hazards, including “danger” trees (trees with damaged root systems that may fall over without warning), fire hotspots, and potentially unstable temporary access routes and fireguards.

The Mount McAllister fire is located approximately 50 kilometres west of Chetwynd and has burned about 26,280 hectares as of Oct. 6, 2014. For up-to-date information on this fire and the latest information on current wildfire activity, burning restrictions, road closures and air quality advisories, go to: http://www.bcwildfire.ca

To report a wildfire or unattended campfire, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone.
