This is sweet news. Tourists and residents in Sooke will have an opportunity for an interactive artisanal experience when they visit Tugwell Creek Honey Farm and Meadery.

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, the ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans at Work pilot project launched at the farm located at 8750 West Coast Road.

The ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans at Work project, supported by the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and the B.C. Francophone Affairs Program, showcases artisans and their trades by helping them open their workshops to the general public to share their knowledge and expertise and sell the products they make on site.

The ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans at Work approach was first implemented in Quebec. The B.C. Francophone Affairs Program, in collaboration with the francophone business community and other government partners, are facilitating the development of ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans at Work projects in B.C.

Established in 2003, Tugwell Creek was the first meadery to open its doors in Western Canada and joined the ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans at Work network in 2014. Visitors there will get to experience first-hand the art of beekeeping and will learn all about how mead is made, from the collection of the honey through to the fermentation process. It will be a complete learning experience from beginning to end.

The first phase of the ÉCONOMUSÉE® project in B.C. involved the launch of two pilot sites in the Cowichan Valley:

• Merridale Ciderworks, a heritage cider apple orchard, visitors can discover each step required in the crafting of a world class cider product through professionally developed interpretation techniques.
• Hazelwood Herb Farm, where visitors have the opportunity to see how herbs are transformed into culinary, cosmetic and household products using traditional and contemporary techniques, in an interactive setting.

The Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training and the B.C. Francophone Affairs program are investing $30,000 in the ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans at Work projects in 2014/15. The Société de Développement Économique de la Colombie-Britannique (SDECB), a provincial, not-profit organization, is leading the implementation of the ÉCONOMUSÉE® pilot projects in B.C.

Un projet pilote pour la promotion des artisans et de leur travail voit le jour à Sooke

Voici une bonne nouvelle : les touristes et les résidents de Sooke auront la possibilité de vivre une expérience interactive du travail d’artisans lorsqu’ils visiteront la ferme d’apiculture et hydromellerie Tugwell Creek (Tugwell Creek Honey Farm and Meadery).

Le projet pilote ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans à l’œuvre sera officiellement lancé le mardi, 30 sept. 2014, sur les lieux mêmes de la ferme, au 8750, West Coast Road.

Le projet ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans à l’œuvre, appuyé par le Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training et par le Programme des affaires francophones de la Colombie-Britannique, met en vedette des artisans et leur travail en les aidant à ouvrir leur atelier au public afin de partager leur savoir et leur expertise et de vendre sur place les produits qu’ils fabriquent.

L’approche adoptée par les projets ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans à l’œuvre a vu le jour au Québec. Le Programme des affaires francophones de la Colombie-Britannique, en collaboration avec la communauté d’affaires francophone et d’autres partenaires gouvernementaux, contribue à la mise sur pied des projets ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans à l’œuvre dans notre province.

Fondée en 2003, la ferme Tugwell Creek est la première hydromellerie à ouvrir ses portes dans l’ouest du Canada et à se joindre au réseau ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans à l’œuvre, ce qu’elle a fait en 2014. Les visiteurs qui s’y rendront pourront découvrir concrètement le travail réalisé dans une ferme apicole et apprendront comment on fabrique l’hydromel, de la récolte du miel jusqu’au processus de fermentation. Ils pourront vivre une expérience d’apprentissage complète, du début du travail jusqu’à la fin de la fabrication.

La première phase du projet ÉCONOMUSÉE® en Colombie-Britannique a donné lieu au lancement de deux projets pilotes dans la vallée de Cowichan :

• La cidrerie Merridale (Merridale Ciderworks), verger patrimonial et cidrerie, où les visiteurs peuvent découvrir chaque étape de production d’un cidre de réputation mondiale, grâce à des techniques d’interprétation conçues par des professionnels.
• La ferme de fines herbes Hazelwood (Hazelwood Herb Farm), où les visiteurs ont la possibilité de voir comment les fines herbes sont transformées en produits culinaires, en cosmétiques et produits ménagers à l’aide de techniques traditionnelles et contemporaines, dans un environnement interactif.

En 2014-2015, le Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training et le Programme des affaires francophones investissent 30 000 $ dans des projets ÉCONOMUSÉE® Artisans à l’œuvre. La Société de développement économique de la Colombie-Britannique (SDECB), un organisme sans but lucratif provincial, dirige la mise en œuvre des projets pilotes ÉCONOMUSÉE® en Colombie-Britannique.
