VANCOUVER -- The BC Coroners Service has announced new dates for the public inquest into the death of Kevin Neil Cuthbertson.

The inquest, originally scheduled to commence on Feb. 11, 2014, will now commence on March 24, 2014.

The change in dates was necessitated by the fact that some witnesses considered by the Coroner to be important in providing the jury with complete facts about the case were not available on the dates for which the inquest had originally been scheduled.

Mr. Cuthbertson, aged 32, died on March 25, 2012, after being found unresponsive in his cell at Matsqui Institution by his cellmate.

At the inquest, presiding coroner Tara Devine and a jury will hear evidence from subpoenaed witnesses to determine the facts surrounding this death. While the jury may not, by law, make any findings of legal responsibility, it will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances in the future.

An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.

Event Date: Beginning March 24, 2014
Time: 9 a.m.
Place:
Burnaby Coroners Court,
20th floor, MetroTower II, Metrotown,
4720 Kingsway, Burnaby
