The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a motor vehicle incident in the Victoria suburb of Saanich on Jan. 31, 2014.

He was Matthew Daniel Pieczarka, aged 21, of Victoria.

Mr. Pieczarka was the driver of a pickup truck that was travelling north on Shelbourne Street shortly after 7 p.m. on Jan. 31, 2014, when, near McKenzie Avenue, it left the road and struck a utility pole and two lamp standards. Mr. Pieczarka was transported to Victoria General Hospital but was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival at hospital.

The BC Coroners Service and Saanich Police continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. Pieczarka has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
