The BC Coroners Service has announced that a public inquest will be held into the death of Darcy Richard Bertrand.
The inquest will commence on May 12, 2014, at the Coroners Court in Burnaby.
Mr. Bertrand, aged 46, was found unresponsive in his cell at Mission Institution on Aug. 14, 2012. He was immediately transported to Abbotsford Regional Hospital, but died there two days later.
Presiding coroner Isis van Loon and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.
An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
