The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died in a fire in a condo in the Victoria suburb of Saanich on March 16, 2014.

She was Mary Monica Pollard, aged 81, who resided in the condo.

Shortly after noon on March 16, the Saanich fire department responded to a report of smoke detectors and sprinklers going off in a condo on Chatterton Way. They found Ms. Pollard unresponsive in the condo. She was transported immediately to Royal Jubilee Hospital, but died a few hours later.

The BC Coroners Service and Saanich police and fire departments are continuing to investigate this death.

The family of Ms. Pollard is aware of her death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
