Coroners Service has announced that a public inquest will be held into the death of David Edwin Fast.

The inquest will begin on June 23, 2014, at the Coroners Court in Burnaby.

Mr. Fast, aged 55, died on July 27, 2013, at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. He had been taken to hospital earlier that day after being found in medical distress in the cells at the North Fraser Pre-Trial Centre.

Presiding coroner Kelly Barnard and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing future deaths under similar circumstances.

An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
