The BC Coroners Service has announced new dates for the public inquest into the death of Ryan Allen Walter Jacob.

The inquest, originally scheduled to commence on July 28, 2014, will now commence one week earlier, on July 21, 2014.

The change in dates was necessitated by scheduling issues.

Mr. Jacob, aged 45, died on Jan. 31, 2013, as the result of a police shooting following an interaction with members of the Burnaby RCMP detachment near the intersection of Hastings and Macdonald.   

At the inquest, presiding coroner Margaret Janzen and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.

An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
