The BC Coroners Service has rescheduled the public inquest into the death of Roland Joseph Bourque.
The inquest, originally scheduled to commence on June 2, 2014, now will commence on Sept. 16, 2014 at the Coroners Court in Burnaby.
The change in dates was necessitated by the fact that witnesses considered by the coroner to be important in providing the jury with complete facts about the case were not available on the dates for which the inquest had originally been scheduled.
Mr. Bourque, aged 69, was an inmate at the North Fraser Pre-trial Centre in Port Coquitlam when he died on the morning of April 3, 2012.
Presiding coroner Liana Wright and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding this death. The jury will have the opportunity to make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.
An inquest is a formal process that allows for public presentation of evidence relating to a death.
