The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died following a boating incident near Harrison Mills on May 31, 2014.
She was Chelsey Dykshoorn, aged 22, of Abbotsford.
On the afternoon of May 31, Ms. Dykshoorn was one of four passengers aboard an 18-foot powerboat, which was travelling upriver on the Harrison River, when the boat hit a log chained to a boom.
As a result of the impact, Ms. Dykshoorn suffered a fall and struck her head. The boat operator immediately took the boat to the nearest landing area, and Ms. Dykshoorn was transported by air ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. She died in hospital of her injuries the next day.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP are continuing to investigate this death.
Ms. Dykshoorn’s family has been notified of her death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
