The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a male who was found deceased in Cottonwood Falls park in Nelson on June 26, 2014.

He is Lance Garry Sparks, aged 52, most recently a resident of Nelson.

On the morning of June 26, visitors to the park noticed the body of Mr. Sparks submerged in Cottonwood Creek at the bottom of the falls and immediately called for assistance. Nelson Police Department, Nelson Fire Department, and Nelson Search and Rescue attended and recovered Mr. Sparks. He was deceased at the scene and is believed to have perished the previous evening.

The Coroners Service and Nelson Police Department continue to investigate this death.

The family of Mr. Sparks has been notified of his death. On behalf of the family, the Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
