The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a cliff-diving incident on Kootenay Lake near Gray Creek on June 30, 2014.
He was Wyatt Earl Davidson, aged 25, from Riondel, a small community on the east shore of Kootenay Lake.
Mr. Davidson and a friend were cliff-diving into Kootenay Lake from a cliff about 10 metres high on the afternoon of June 30. After a dive, the friend observed Mr. Davidson to be in trouble in the water. He went to assist him but was unable to get Mr. Davidson to shore.
The body of Mr. Davidson was recovered from the lake on July 7 after search-and-recovery efforts involving an RCMP dive team, Nelson Search and Rescue, and Ralston and Associates recovery specialists from Idaho. Mr. Davidson was found at a depth of about 40 metres, about three metres off shore.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Davidson has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
