A report on British Columbia's third Justice Summit held May 4-5, 2014, is now public and may be found here: http://www.justicebc.ca/en/rm/summits.html
The Justice Summit brought together more than 60 justice leaders for a collaborative discussion about the province's family justice system, focused primarily on separation and divorce issues. Over the course of two days, participants focused on how better to serve users of the family justice system, foster early and out-of-court resolution of family matters where appropriate, and measure the system's performance.
Summit reports are used to inform the B.C. Justice and Public Safety Council's strategic plan for the sector, and are presented to the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Suzanne Anton, and the chief justices and chief judge of the three courts.
Justice Summits are held at least once a year as required under the Justice Reform and Transparency Act (JRTA) passed in spring 2013. In accordance with the JRTA, the minister established a Justice and Public Safety Council in April 2013, which published the first Justice and Public Safety Strategic Plan in March 2014.
The next Justice Summit is scheduled for fall 2014.
