The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died in a motor vehicle incident near the Coquihalla summit on July 19, 2014.
He is Graham Pearce Overbury, aged 56, of Coquitlam.
Mr. Overbury was riding his motorcycle southbound on the Coquihalla Highway at about 2:30 p.m. on July 19, 2014. South of the summit he passed through a snowshed/tunnel. A two-vehicle motor vehicle incident had occurred at the south end of the tunnel, and other vehicles had stopped abruptly to avoid that collision. Mr. Overbury’s motorcycle struck the stopped vehicles. Several other vehicles following behind Mr. Overbury were also unable to avoid the wreckage, and in total, 12 vehicles were involved.
Mr. Overbury was rendered medical assistance at the scene and was transported to Fraser Canyon Hospital in Hope, but he succumbed to his injuries before arrival at hospital.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this incident.
The family of Mr. Overbury has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
