The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a swimming incident near Pitt Meadows on Aug. 4, 2014.
He was Jagit Khangura, aged 44, of Port Coquitlam.
Mr. Khangura was swimming with family members in the Alouette River near the Silver Bridge in the late afternoon of Aug. 4 when, about 5:50 p.m., he was observed to be in trouble in the water and was not able to reach the shore. Family members called 911 and emergency services responded immediately. About 8:30 p.m., Mr. Khangura was located on the river bottom and recovered by a diver from the Canadian Coast Guard. Mr. Khangura was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP are continuing to investigate this death.
Mr. Khangura’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
