The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a woman who died in a hiking accident in the southeast corner of the province on Aug. 7, 2014.
She is Sarah Louise Lamarche, aged 23. Ms. Lamarche was a resident of Edmonton, Alberta, but was working for the summer at Waterton Lakes National Park in southwestern Alberta.
On Aug. 7, 2014, Ms. Lamarche had a day off from work, and she and a friend went for a hike in remote country, beginning in Alberta but crossing into BC. At about 11:45 a.m. Ms. Lamarche was witnessed to suffer a fall down a cliff about 150 metres high. She was deceased at the scene. Recovery was made successfully by the Waterton Search and Rescue team.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Ms. Lamarche has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
