The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died following a hiking incident near Silverton on Aug. 29, 2014.
He was Nicholas Ioan Llewelyn-Smith, aged 31, from the Orara Valley, New South Wales, Australia.
Mr. Llewelyn-Smith was camping with several friends at the Bannock Point campground south of Silverton on the shore of Slocan Lake. In the early morning hours of Aug. 29, Mr. Llewelyn-Smith and others decided to go for a night hike. While descending a steep slope, Mr. Llewelyn-Smith fell from a cliff. He was deceased at the scene.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death.
The family of Mr. Llewelyn-Smith has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
