The BC Coroners Service, assisted by the Campbell River RCMP Detachment and BC Police Missing Persons Centre, has now identified a man whose remains were found in the Oyster River near Campbell River.
He is Jimmy Richard Pielle, aged 34, of Campbell River.
On Aug. 4, 2014, people snorkelling in the Oyster River came upon human remains lodged in a pothole near the Island Highway. The snorkelers notified authorities, and the RCMP dive team was able to recover the remains.
The BC Coroners Service and RCMP continue to investigate this death. There is no indication that any foul play was involved.
The last confirmed sighting of Mr. Pielle was about 3 p.m. on March 10, 2014, at which time he was hitchhiking northbound on the Island Highway near Ware Road in Nanaimo. Anyone who saw Mr. Pielle after that time is requested to contact the BC Coroners Service or their local RCMP detachment.
Mr. Pielle’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service requests that their privacy be respected during this difficult time.
