The BC Coroners Service has confirmed the identity of a man who died after an apparent landslide at Wreck Beach in Vancouver on Sept. 22, 2014.

He is Michael Marceau, aged 23, of Riviere du Loup, Quebec.

On the afternoon of Sept. 24, 2014, two hikers in the Wreck Beach area came upon Mr. Marceau, deceased, along a 120-metre sand cliff face between Trails 4 and 6, near the western edge of Pacific Spirit Park. Mr. Marceau had been covered by a significant amount of sand. The area where he was found is known as one very prone to landslides. He is believed to have died two days earlier.

The BC Coroners Service and University of BC RCMP continue to investigate this death.

Mr. Marceau’s family has been notified of his death. On behalf of family members, the BC Coroners Service asks that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.
