Public consultations to determine the appropriate wording, delivery and legacy efforts for a formal apology to the Chinese community in B.C. for historical wrongs of past provincial governments have wrapped up. During the past three months seven forums were held in communities throughout the province.
British Columbians will still have the opportunity to provide input through the EmbraceBC website until Friday, Jan. 31. Minister Responsible for Multiculturalism Teresa Wat will then prepare a consultation summary of the information collected.
Wat will also engage all members of the legislature to provide input and work towards a formal apology that all parties can support. During the next sitting of the legislature, government plans to introduce a motion regarding a formal apology to British Columbia's Chinese community for historical wrongs.
