The Province is supporting B.C. companies as they head to the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) 2014 in Houston, Texas, May 5-8, 2014.
The Offshore Technology Conference, held in Houston's Reliant Center, is the offshore oil and gas industry's largest and most well-known event for the development of hydrocarbon resources in the areas of drilling, environmental protection, exploration, production development, and innovation and technology. Many of the companies attending OTC 2014 will be involved in the development of B.C.’s marine-related LNG infrastructure.
B.C. companies will showcase their products and services at the BC Pavilion, which is organized by the Ocean Initiatives BC (OIBC), an industry association representing B.C.’s maritime industry. Twelve B.C. companies will exhibit at this year’s show, including nine in the pavilion. B.C. has exhibited in the Canadian Pavilion for the past 20 years.
The Minstry of International Trade provided funding support last year, and again this year, for the B.C. Pavilion. That reduces the overall cost for companies to participate and helps establish and promote the province’s brand in a sector that is strategically important for B.C. trade and investment. One of B.C.’s U.S.-based trade and investment representatives will also be attending to assist B.C. companies.
The 2013 conference reached a 30-year high of 104,800 attendees, the second-highest in the show's history - up 17% from last year. The event saw 2,728 companies representing 40 countries from all over the world. International companies made up almost two-fifths of the exhibitors at the show. A total of 164 Canadian companies attended OTC 2013, including more than 20 from British Columbia.
Quotes:
Teresa Wat, Minister of International Trade -
“Our government is committed to supporting B.C. companies with opportunities such as the Offshore Technology Conference because, as we can see from last year’s conference, participation at marquis events like this are paying real dividends.”
David Fissel, president of ASL Environmental Sciences and board member of Ocean Industries BC -
“Our company appreciates the support of the B.C. government to help us spread the word internationally about what British Columbia has to offer in the area of ocean technologies. Arising from our participation at OTC, we recently concluded a deal with a major international oil and gas company for a three-year major metocean-ice study for a proposed LNG terminal.”
