Canada Stewart Energy Group Ltd. is the latest proponent to submit a natural gas export license application with Canada's National Energy Board (NEB).
This request follows the NEB's approval of four export applications late last year. There are currently seven approved export licenses for LNG projects in B.C. and four under review, including the submission made by Canada Stewart Energy Group Ltd.
The company is requesting permission to export B.C.'s natural gas to customers overseas where the demand for clean energy continues to grow. British Columbia has a vast supply of natural gas to provide energy to new markets.
Stewart Energy Group is a Canadian corporation registered in B.C. and is proposing a development near Stewart in northern British Columbia. The small-scale project is in the early stages of development and is investigating a land base for operations.
In reviewing each export application, the NEB ensures the quantity of the gas does not exceed the amount required to meet domestic demand.

"We welcome Stewart Energy to the Province. With another LNG export application submitted, we now have 11 proposals looking to export B.C.'s natural gas to markets in Asia. LNG is a generational opportunity to create jobs, strong economic partnerships and long-term prosperity in British Columbia."
Quick facts:
- To date, the NEB has approved seven export licenses for B.C.-based projects:
- Kitimat LNG, proposed by Apache Corp. and Chevron Canada.
- LNG Canada, proposed by Shell and co-venture partners.
- Prince Rupert LNG Exports Ltd., proposed by the BG Group.
- Pacific NorthWest LNG Ltd., proposed by PETRONAS/Progress Energy.
- WCC LNG Ltd., representing Imperial Oil and ExxonMobil Canada Ltd.
- Woodfibre LNG Export Pte. Ltd., proposed by Woodfibre Natural Gas Limited.
- The Douglas Channel Energy project
- These export applications remain with the NEB for review:
- An export application by Aurora LNG, a joint venture by Nexen Energy ULC, a wholly owned subsidiary of CNOOC Limited, INPEX Corporation and JGC Corporation.
- An export application by the Triton LNG Limited Partnership, a 50-50 joint-venture between AltaGas Ltd. and Idemitsu Canada Corporation.
- A request to export by Kitsault Energy Ltd.
- If five LNG facilities move forward, the cumulative gross domestic product benefit to British Columbia could total $1 trillion by 2046.
- LNG export operations in B.C. could create over 100,000 new jobs in British Columbia and new revenues for government to support a debt-free future.
