VICTORIA - In recognition of Ukraine’s Independence Day, Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement:
“On August 24th, 1991, Ukraine’s parliament declared the country independent of the former Soviet Union. This act marked a rejection of oppression and the re-emergence of a proud nation with a long history. The widespread celebrations that followed were a vivid expression of hope for a better future.
“Today, Ukraine’s sovereignty is threatened again. We stand proudly with British Columbians of Ukrainian heritage, and with Ukraine, for our shared values of freedom and self-determination.”
