In her speech from the throne today, Lieutenant Governor Judith Guichon set out the government’s intention to pass a comprehensive legislative framework for a liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry that will transform British Columbia’s economy for generations to come.
Legislation to be introduced in the fall session will provide increased certainty for proponents of potential LNG projects, ensure fair benefits for British Columbians, establish B.C. as a competitive environment for investment in this key industry, and protect our environment.
“This session is a crucial moment for British Columbia, as we work to sustain our natural gas industry and drive it to new heights through export to Asia-Pacific countries,” said Premier Christy Clark. “Done right, LNG is an opportunity to create 100,000 family-supporting jobs and continue investing in the public services we depend on.”
During the fall session, the government will continue its work to ensure British Columbians are trained and first in line for new jobs, to secure responsible development of B.C.’s natural resources, and advance recognition and reconciliation of First Nations interests.
