Premier Christy Clark has issued the following statement marking Remembrance Day:
“This Remembrance Day, we have much to reflect upon: the 100th anniversary of the First World War, and 75 years since the outbreak of the Second; the conclusion of Canada’s combat mission in Afghanistan; the deployment of Canadian soldiers in the Middle East; and the recent killings of Corporal Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent.
“We also mourn the death of Private Steven Allen of Victoria, who died far too soon while training to serve his country.
“All these events remind us of something we must not take for granted: the willingness of our best and bravest to put their lives at risk so that we can sleep safely each night.
“To all those who serve, and have served, this country: thank you. We will never forget.”
