Commercial drivers in B.C. can organize smarter and more efficient trips thanks to a new DriveBC route planner.

The Commercial Vehicle (CV) Route Planner is a free online feature that provides truckers with locations and details of potential clearance restrictions. This new planning tool will assist truckers when applying to the ministry for an oversize/overweight single trip permit. The CV Route Planner maps the shortest distance route and highlights restrictions along the route based on vehicle height and width.

The CV Route Planner is the latest example of new technology now available to truckers. On DriveBC, commercial drivers can also see current highway conditions, with nearly 400 highway webcam images strategically placed around the province. Weigh2GoBC is another option saving truckers time and money by allowing registered vehicles to be weighed and measured electronically without needing to stop at selected inspection sites.

DriveBC was launched in 2005 and is the government of B.C.'s most popular website.

Quotes:

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone -

"The safe movement of goods along our highways is critical to the wellbeing of our economy which is why we're using new technology so that commercial drivers can plan their routes more efficiently."

BC Trucking Association president Louise Yako -

"BC Trucking Association members that transport oversized loads welcome and appreciate this new planning tool. They've been involved in testing and have had the opportunity to provide feedback to improve the tool before it was made public. Up-to-date information on overhead clearances is absolutely critical not only for the safety of commercial vehicle operators, but for those they share the road with."
