The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure and Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen are partnering to build a pedestrian pathway next to Lakehill Road in Kaleden.

The two-kilometre paved pathway will run from Highway 97 to Ponderosa Avenue at the former Kaleden Hotel next to Skaha Lake. The walkway will provide a safe walking and cycling path between Highway 97 and the Lower Kaleden lakeshore, with its recreational amenities and access to the KVR Trail.

The $500,000 project budget will be a 50/50 cost share between the ministry and the Regional District. Lakehill Road is the main road in Kaleden, and the construction of the new walkway will provide a safe path for pedestrians, cyclists and those with mobility challenges.

Construction on the project will start later this summer, with completion expected in late fall.

Quotes:

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Todd Stone -

“This new pathway will significantly improve safety for residents living in this area and for visitors enjoying this scenic part of the Okanagan. The funding partnership with the Regional District enabled us to move forward with this important project.”

MLA for Boundary Similkameen Linda Larson -

“We live in a beautiful part of British Columbia and this new pathway from the highway to Lower Kaleden not only increases accessibility to the lakeshore, it improves the safety of this area for residents.”

Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen Tom Siddon -

“This long awaited and much-needed project will give Kaleden its first-ever pedestrian walkway in the historic community's more than 100-year history. The walkway will provide a pedestrian friendly and safe walking connection to several important community services and the lakefront amenities of Lower Kaleden.”
