Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Jordan Sturdy wrapped up his series of regional meetings on Vancouver Island’s transportation network today.
In his meetings with over 70 groups, including local governments, port and airport authorities, First Nations and other community leaders, Sturdy heard the need for continued investment in the Island’s transportation network to support local and regional economies.
Priorities raised included reducing congestion on key corridors, improving multi-modal connections between communities, adding cycling infrastructure for commuters and tourists, continued improvement to our marine ports and airports and the importance of ferries.
Sturdy also heard the important role transportation plays in supporting tourism and economic development and building healthy sustainable and vibrant communities on the Island.
The information gathered during these meeting will help inform a broader public discussion about future transportation needs on Vancouver Island as part of the government’s new 10-year provincial transportation plan, which is under development.
Meetings took place in Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Courtenay, Campbell River, Port McNeil and Port Hardy.
