Advanced Education Minister Andrew Wilkinson has made the following statement in recognition of the 45th anniversary of Thompson Rivers University.
“Thompson Rivers University has come a long way since opening its doors as Cariboo College in 1970. It became a university college in 1989, and became a university when the Thompson Rivers University Act was passed in 2005.
“The college expanded rapidly in its first 20 years, growing from 367 full-time and 200 part-time students to 10 times that number by 1990. It currently hosts more than 14,300 students on-campus in Kamloops, Williams Lake and at its regional centres. In addition, more than 16,400 students are enrolled in distance or online learning through TRU Open Learning.
“Thompson Rivers University offers a range of developmental, career and vocational, trades and technology and academic programs leading to certificates, diplomas, bachelor and master’s degrees.
“Congratulations to faculty, staff and students on celebrating the 45th anniversary of Thompson Rivers University.”
